    Very limp/weak looking lettuce

    Hi All,

    I sowed some lettuce into some small pots a few weeks ago, they've germinated fine but have recently looked very weak and limp and I'm not sure why being new to all this. Some of the leaks have even snapped of their own accord.

    I've attached a photo if anyone can help/advise on what I can do to either revive these or prevent this happening again it would be greatly appreciated!

    They are "leggy". Lettuce grows very well outside during the summer. Yours, I think? May have been germinated indoors, probably a little too hot and not enough light. You could try planting those out now or start some seed off again and place your pot outside.

        Thanks Scarlett, you are indeed correct they were sown indoors in a conservatory I've left them in there from the start so they should have had plenty of light in there, although it has been fairly overcast/cloudy for the past few weeks- I've put them outdoors for now to see if they revive though part of me is unsure as there has been so much rainfall recently, hopefully they won't go to rot, I can sow more but was hopeful of a bit of a crop from these ones .

          Where were you going to put them? I would just plant those leggy ones out now, plant them a little deeper than they are now and also start off some more.lettuce like cooler growing conditions so it was probably much to warm in the conservatory for them. As soon as you spotted a little speck of green the tray would have been best placed outside. I would sow a small pinch of seed per pot, and place outside. When they've sprouted you can plant them out separately.

              Hello and welcome master Baggins. I agree with Scarlet. Like you, i'm also new to gardening but i have successfully grown A LOT!!! of lettuce, seriously...too much. However, I did not germinate them inside, they never even saw a pot. I sowed my directly into the ground and they came up beautifully, Tastes great and is nice and crunchy!

              The photo was taken a couple of weeks ago, now the heads are huge!
