  • Which tools

I know when I go to the shop/ car boots that I will be tempted to buy the lot, so which tools have you all found to be a must have, nice to have, bought but never use.

I already have a fork, spade and rake.

Hi Nicola. The only thing I actually use beyond what you already have, is a trowel for planting out, a bucket to put weeds in, some secateurs, and pair of gardening gloves.

Some grapes will be sick of me mentioning this tool but it is near the top of my list every time, it's brilliant not only for flower bulbs but also for planting spuds.

Sorry Nicola but on reading your question again, I am confused as to what you are actually asking.

I read Nicola's query as 'which tools are must-have; which tools are nice to have; and which tools do you have but are a waste of time?'

I've got a couple but never use either of them, find I do too much damage with them to things that I want to leave so prefer to just use a hand fork most of the time.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I have a hoe too but find it very difficult to use, I mean imagine standing on the rim of a dustbin and trying to hoe the weeds

I think I paid about £30 for my 1st one which I gave to my old lottie neighbour when I left. I then paid around £14 for one then saw this one at 6 squid......................well, you can't have too many long handled bulb planters.............

BM - I said a tenner but think I only paid £9 and they were still selling them last month - get yourself another one

Should add that one of my fellow plot holders bought one as soon as he saw me using mine

Yes this is what I meant. As a newbie I am so tempted to go and buy all the tools and reading around there are lots of long lists of tools needed so I wondered which ones people actually use and which ones they have found to be a waste of time. That way I can start by getting just the must haves to get me started and add to those as and when if I find I need to.
