Sounds about the same amount as I grew in my first year (last year). I used 3 raised beds and loads of pots and grow bags. I am doing the same amount this year but have added 6 types of tomatoes and 2 types of potatos, i have so many plans and all this is in my back garden! x

one thing I will say, I was always amazed at how little soil/compost you really need to grow things in. My father still gets away with growing toms in 6 to 8 inch pots because he waters and feeds religiously.

I dont think that sounds too many. Its my first year of GYO too and my modest plans of a couple of veggies and fruit have ballooned into a pretty impressive seed collection!!
My game plan is to stick a bunch of stuff in the garden and see what grows well and what I enjoy eating. The more stuff you throw at it the more options you have and the more experience for next year!

Growing vegetables....who knew it would feel like such an adventure!!LOL

The square foot system is really good for having a large number of different types of veggies. It also give the number of individual plants for a given space.

What many newbies seem to forget is how big a plant grows. For example think of 12 lettuces lined up in a row in the greengrocer's that's how much space they need in the ground; a cauli will need a great deal more space than the cauli you see in the shop because you don't see the leaves they have chopped off.

Also remember what is under the ground. The closer you put a plant, the less feeding/watering environment is available to it's roots.

Finally, how much of everything would you eat, if you don't freeze excess produce? So would you eat 12 lettuces in the space of a couple of weeks? Better to sow 6 at intervals of 2/3 weeks in modules to fill gaps in your plot to mature at different times.

Having said all of that, just enjoy trying everything out.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.
