  • Too late for Toms?

    Hi everyone,

I wonder if you can help. I'll be moving house soon and I want to pot some tomatoes to grow on my new window ledge. My problem is that I'm not moving in until the beginning of May!!
With no opportunity to get the toms started beforehand I've been scouring the web for some advice but haven't had much luck.

Will it be to late by then? I was thinking of using either gardener's delight or Britain's breakfast varieties?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Hi, tomman, welcome to the Grapevine. Well, as the saying goes, they've got two chances! Give them a go. I always find that later sowings catch up. Are you growing them under glass or outside? I'm sure you will still get a crop, even if it's a bit delayed, in a greenhouse. If you're growing outside it will depend on the summer we get. (If we get one this year!)

Good luck. It's always worth risking a few seeds.

      Thanks Flummery!

I'll be growing them potted on my windowsill (no garden unfortunatly) So I should be able to keep them fairly warm!

      Wish me luck!

Oh I do, I do! And if worst should happen - you could buy in a few plants. I wouldn't let moving stop me having home grown toms!
