  • Sweet Potato

Earlier in the year i planted a sweet potato from one i bought in a shop, i made sure it was organic as apparently you shouldnt use non-organic otherwise they wont sprout, i potted it in a jar after splitting it into 3 and planted the best one that sprouted, it has so far survived the winter, can i expect a crop and if so when, i have heard that once they take root they can be like a weed, any comments please would be great. Happy New Year, i hope you all had a good time!

ive started growing my now way way to early, they are a vine thay grows quickly in warm weather, the ideal temperture i found is above 20 degrees mid 20's is even better. Different varieties have diffrent growind season so they west indians varieties will be the less hardiest and longest growing season but has better more superb taste while t65 or somethin like that is way more hardy but less quality in taste if you know what i mean.

Sweet potatoes aren't hardy at all, so they won't grow wild: the first frost will kill them.
They're best grown in a warm greenhouse, started off by slips like you've done, and planted out in May/June.

Yeah kind of, they have alot of top growth but i would suggest geting them started as soon as possible unless you want little crop which is small ad thin.

They are pretty leafy. You'll need a long growing season and I found that they are pretty thirsty. In the right conditions you may get a crop of smallish proportions. I'll try them again this year - like you I use organic self-sprouters - but never hold out too much hope!
