  • Strawberry runners question

My strawbs have fruit! And runners. As I am not planning onpotting up the runners this year should I just remove them? I was thinking that will allow the plant to put its energies into the fruit. Or did i just imagine that?
    Thanks in advance guys

Early for runners! I only take a max of a couple of runners from each plant and don't do that until they'ver pretty much finished fruiting as I don't want them to put all their energies into new plants.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Ours are runnering too - me and my neighbours.
I think it was the long dry spell ... almost 4 weeks without more than a drizzle.

Some of my greenhouse ones have started with the runners. I have been snipping them off.

I think if you are not planning on increasing your strawberry plants it makes sense to cut off the runners otherwise the plants will use all their energy producing more plants instead of fruit, thats what I do anyway and it seems to work, I also give them a good feed.

If you want them for next years crop dont cut them yet pin them down till they take then cut them, or cut them off and discard them, as its a bit early.I would take them off and let your fruit develop. There will be plenty more runners later.

Apologies for lack of knowledge - What are runners?! I have three tiny plants at the moment that are producing tiny fruit, trying to get them going but not sure what's for the best!

A runner looks like another stem of the strawberry plant but it usually grows horizontally

I have put four runners in to 9" pots! How long do I wait before cutting them off from the mother plant?

my strawberries have gone mental with runners.... i cant keep up with them. ive tried cutting some off & put some in plant pots to root. i have noticed through that the amount of strawberries has declined since they went into overdrive with the runner production!
