  • Storing seeds in a poly-tunnel - any advice to keep them at their best?

    Afternoon all,

I have lots of seed packets and I am still waiting for my shed to be built so I was wondering how would it be best for me to keep my seeds inside my poly-tunnel?

    Thanks for your reply,

    Samuel

You can, but you need to put them inside a waterproof container and keep it in the shade.

I wouldn't keep them in there - but then I don't think a shed is good for them either.

They both get too hot in summer and too cold in winter, when seeds need to be kept dry and at a cool even temperature.
I store mine in a tupperware-type box in the coolest room in my house.

Somewhere cool & dark & dry, ideally. The polytunnel is going to be too warm & too humid, once you start watering things

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I thought I had lots of seeds, Samuel, but not enough to fill a shed or polytunnel
The temperature fluctuations in both are too great to store seeds - maybe a couple of weeks but no longer.
If you're desperate you could put them in a waterproof container and bury it on your plot. That would give you a more even temperature but make sure you keep the lid on or they may all grow

What's wrong with storing them at home?
