  • Sprouting Garlic Query

    Hello All,

First post here from a newbie here trying to get more use out of my garden. Apart from potatoes, tomatoes and a few sweet pepper plants last year I have never really planted many vegetables.

Anyway, I planted some garlic cloves (supermarket ones) in Oct. Not really knowing what I was doing I just placed them in multi purpose compost in growing modules and left outside. they sprouted one main green shoot so I planted some in pots and some in the ground around february.

The problem now is a lot of them have sprouted lots of green shoots alongside the main stem. Does this mean they are ruined? Should I just pull them up and compost them?

Thanks and I promise future queries will just be to the point!

Hmm sounds to me like they're doing what they're supposed to do. They don't just have one leaf. You can't really go wrong with em, you just split the bulb into cloves, plant pointy end up and leave em to it. It sounds like that's what you've done so I think they'll be fine.
