  • shrubs and flowers

    Hi

I have a lawn and a strip of land for growing veg. I also feel I should have a few shrubs and flowers to attract pollinators and to make the garden more attractive. I thought of lavender - any suggestions would be welcome.

The most attractive colours for bees are blue & yellow flowers.I've got a ceanothus, umbrella shaped, about 13 yrs old, that's covered in bees as soon as it flowers,it's full of buds at the moment. Wasps & hoverflys also pollinate flowers. I get loads of hoverflys round my tomatoes. Marigolds & nasturtium can be put in amongst the veg to attract good bugs. Colour & fragrance.

it would do a good job, and has a reasonably long flowering period, but perhaps you need some other things for earlier / later in the year? (Or earlier / later flowering varieties of Lavender too )
