Hi guys I have grown chilli plants from seed for the first time this year. It is about two months since they germinated and although the leaves are broad the plants are still very short. When can i expect them to flower and fruit? Any tips?

Mine are just like that. Everytime I walk past them I threaten to put them on the compost heap if they don't buck up an start growing. It hasn't worked, but you can try that if you like?! They were just the same last year. Lazy little tykes. I potted them up last weekend, and they've speed up a bit since then, but I really didn't think they deserved it; precious little foliage, and B**r all root ... you might try that though. I think they just need to hang around until July and hotter weather etc to get going. (These are some F1 blow-your-head-off-model. I also grew some regular chillies last year, and they grew and fruited more "normally", but they were useless at spicing anything up, so I haven't bothered with them this year).

| I kept a chilli plant from last year in a plant pot on the kitchen window sill. It got quite leggy so I cut it back and it started some new growth. A couple of months ago there were loads of flowers on it but no fruit, so I stuck it in the garden to "survive or not". I've now got 2 little green fruits on it with lots more flowers! It's still only about a foot tall

"I hate to say it but they are about a foot tall (one is about two foot)" I hate you saying it too ![]() "I kept a chilli plant from last year ... it got quite leggy so I cut it back and it started some new growth" I didn't know until a couple of weeks ago that was an option, but I'm definitely going to try that next winter.

"tried one the other day and it was just like eating a green pepper..no spice at all" I had some like that last year ... the seed company's idea of "hot" and mind were a bit at odds with each other!! Last edited by Kristen; 02-07-2008 at 08:25 PM.
