 Sad Peppers... I've just been given a couple of young sweet pepper plants by a friend and while they look ok, they have brown/black patches where the branches meet the stem. Having read up a little, I think it could be 'damping off'. Does this sound right and is there any cure? Also is there any danger of it spreading it to my (so far) healthy tomatoes? This is my first attempt at growing anything and I don't think I could cope if I lost my 'babies'!!  Any advice would really be appreciated!      |

| Damping off should only affect seedlings, if you have plants they should be past this, pretty sure most peppers have darker bark at the joint of stem and branch, how big are the plants and any chance of a picture. |

| Well, they're about 12 inches but I should mention that they look fairly healthy other than that.. No camera at the mo though, so I can't show you a pic I'm afraid. |

| I think just about every pepper I have grown (okay not many but there we go) have had dark leaf joints. Nothing to worry about if they look healthy all other ways. |
