    Really stupid question....

    Where should I be sowing my seeds? I've just got a greenhouse but it isn't insulated (yet) and feels quite cold. Should I be sowing seeds inside and then moving them to the greenhouse (before eventually planting out) or should I just be waiting until later in the month and starting things off in the greenhouse?

    I'm planning on growing tomatoes, chillies, cucumbers, leeks, dwarf runner beans and aubergines. The rest of the seeds I have are for direct sowings into the ground.

    I would sow indoors for now. The leeks, once germinated, should be alright in the greenhouse but toms, chillies, cucumbers and augbergines really need warmth to germinate. Not sure about runner beans. I'm not sowing mine until end of April, other wise I have nowhere to store them that's frost free.

      we are so eager that a lot sow now, store on every windowsill and hope they dont get to advanced before we can put them out in the greenhouse/final position, every conceivable container/kitchen towel/loo roll is used. If I was having a realistic moment I would not sow greenhouse cukes or Aubergines just yet, nor the dwarf runner beans (but I have, except the dwarf runner beans, have sown dwarf french instead )

        I keep getting told there is no such thing as a stupid question! I should know I am the queen of (not) stupid questions.
        Definitely want to be keeping the toms and aubergines indoors till all chance of frost has gone. Thats why you cant move for pots round here!

          The trouble is if you start them all too soon, they can go leggy. I can't start anything here at least until the middle of April, and I generally find that everything catches up in the end.

            I've started my aubergines,chillis & toms already...although will probably be sowing more toms later this month in case the early ones are too leggy.They are all on windowsills indoors...unless it's heated I would think the greenhouse will still be too cold.
            I've never had luck with my aubergines & am putting that down to being too late in sowing them previous years,so I'd reccomend that you get at least those sown now & maybe also your chillis & keep them indoors.
            Leeks...I've just sown one lot outside & will do another start of April.
            Cucumbers I'll start in April & they'll go in my placcie greenhouse.
            and finally beans you can either start in pots or sow direct...but again I'll be waiting until April.

              I have cabbages, sprig onions, peas, broad beans, chard in my greenhouse. It's not heated and they have all germinated well. However, It's much too early for toms, aubergines, beans (french and runner) courgettes and squashes in a cold greenhouse. I sow these indoors. I've still not sown most of them yet (Aubergines excepted) - I'll get into gear in another week or so for the toms and the rest will be at half-past April.

                Thanks for all of your replies. I have now sowed my toms and chillies and on your advice I'll go and so my aubergines too. They are sitting on my kitchen windowsill so will hopefully be quite warm.
