    Radish help

    Hi all,

    Got a 30cm raised bed and planted some radish in. They were planted in multipurpose compost along with some oniions and all seems well, however I have noticed that although the radish is growing well(alot of green leaves quite large)when you bend the plants back slightly there doesnt seem to be any bulbs which usually just sit at the top of the soil?Any idea's as I have grown in this compost before and had no probs.

    They don't have bulbs straight away, they'll develop as they grow bigger.
    (Unless they decide to bolt in which case they just flower without forming much of a bulb - more common in dry !!! weather!)

      You will need to thin them out too, to allow space for the plants and bulbs to grow in to.

        When you thin them (if you do) pull out the biggest and leave the rest to grow on. Keep them watered too

          Why is that Two Sheds? I'd have thought pulling the weakest would have been better to do, as the others are already established? D'oh that what I did last night when I thinned some kale out!

            With Kale yes, but with radishes, you take the biggest to eat and the rest will then bulk up happily.
            With Kale you remove the weakest to allow the rest to get big and strong to replant somewhere else.
