Default pondlife?

During the summer holidays when the kids were coming to the allotment with me they went exploring and found some old baths nearby.

I thought I might be able to use one dug into a hole for a small pond.

Does this seem like a sane idea and any tips anyone can give me? I assume I have to put some oxygenating plants in it?

The idea is to attract frogs which I read somewhere keep slugs down?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Bramble Lover, have you asked your lottie secretary yet if you can have a pnd? I wasn't aware until I read the 'Move to the Country' Allotment freebie book, that some sites won't let you have a pond..

Shortie, where did you get the freebie book, our new allotment already has a pond, teeming with toads and frogs, but is a bit overgrown (like the rest of the plot!) and I havent any experience of looking after a wildlife pond! I do know I like it, and the toads and frogs are beneficial, eating lots of slugs and other 'pests', so we are keeping it! The council liason was very enthusiastic about our pond and wanted us to keep it too, so it may well be that Bramble Lovers allotment owners will have a similar view!

Chris Baines did a good book about wildlife gardening a few years ago. Have a look & see if the local library has a copy & photocopy the relevant pages.
