  • Peppers - time to plant out?

I have 3 or 4 pepper plant seedlings which are around 2" tall with two small oval leaves and some more on the way. They are in small peat pots. I have had them outdoors under a cold frame for the last two weeks or so. They did well in the sunny burst we had here last week, but we have rain now and they seem to have stalled a little.
I am reluctnat to bring them back indoors as one or two slugs got in to the batch and were crawling around the house.

Would it be too early to plant them out to a grow bag and put home-made cloches over them? We usually get our better weather in April/May here in N Ireland.

Just to be on the safe side I would leave it unless you can provide protection. I have some chilli's and toms in an unheated propagator and they seem to be ok... they are only seedlings as well.

mt pepper seedlings are growing like crazy in the house but i wont be putting them out in the greenhouse untill end of May.

I'd take them indoors - they;re not hardy plants.

Maybe I just mollycoddle mine but my peppers live their whole lives in the heated conservatory. Put them outside now - faints at the idea
But they do do good peppers.

          They look great alice.
What size pots are they in? and do they stay in that size pot all the time or become pot bound?

It is much too cold (at night) for chillies outside - you might get away with them in a warmish greenhouse, but mine aren't going outside for another month.

My early chillis, peppers and toms sown back in mid January have been in my cold greenhouse all the time for about 2-3 weeks now. I did put them out there in the day, then bring them back indoors in the evenings a few times. They appear to be holding their own and the toms are growing well.
