  • Over wintering Cauliflower seedlings

I have read somewhere that I can sow cauliflower seeds now, indoors, as I have just bought a new heated propergator.

Do I just put them out into the cold frame once they "get going".

Or do I put them out in the cold frame (after hardening off etc) and hope the ice-age doesn't return when I'm not looking? Or is there some more I should know about over-wintering.

    Any help appreciated, Graham.

It's too dark yet. They won't "get going" without enough light. Early autumn would have been better, when they could have put on a bit of growth (when it was still warm and the days were longer).

Cauliflowers don't need a heated propagator to germinate. Having said that, check your seed packet to find out correct sowing dates for your seeds. It's not usual to sow cauliflower seeds at this time of the year.

I'd have thought they follow the onions into the propagator.... some time in February I'd have thought.... unless you're going to run some growlights (blue LED's are the cheapest to run if not buy for this application)..... don't blame me if the local boys in blue pay you a visit if they notice growlights in your greenhouse though... they'll assume you're growing naughty things....
