  • Omg!!!!

Complained incessantly about the unbearable heat of the past week, took advantage of the fresher conditions yesterday to plant out pumpkins, squash and courgettes, just seen a weather forecast that says tonight we might have a ground frost and even sleet and snow! It won't be the first time I've been caught by a June frost (though I think the last one was 1993) but there's just way too much stuff to cover with protection. Just trying to prioritize what to cover and then will have to hope for the best.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

If you have some old net curtains chuck some over the plants and you might just get away with it good luck....jacob

Well as it's an emergency I'm going to use anything I can get my hands on including spare greenhouse shade netting, newspapers, cardboard boxes, the polythene that a new mattress came wrapped in and, thanks to Jacob, my collection of old net-curtains. Plus the small amount of fleece I normally use for overwintering a few things. Trouble is in addition to the pumpkins, I've newly emerged french beans, and potatoes so lots of things that are vulnerable to a frost.

Put a box over them or dig them up quick.

I can't get to the plot to do anything at all, so am just praying now. Stand to lose all potatoes and beans, plus the OH couldn't be a*sed to put the pumpkin and celery plants back in the greenhouse, so they'll probably go too. I've never felt more like hacking this stupid foot off altogether

Just enclose the plant and surrounding few inches of soil in a sort of newspaper tent and weigh it down with stones or anything you can find. Don't forget it's only a temporary measure and needs to be removed as soon as you can so that the plant can get light. But because it's only temporary it doesn't have to be perfect.

Anyone else worried about the cold snap?

The weather is mental? Sunshine and warmth last week and now there's a chill in the air.

I've got some toms out in the open. Will they be ok? I think they're stroppy Any suggestions? I gave them a warm feed tonight.

My chillies are also looking unhappy and I patted a flower very gently and it fell off.

This weather is stressing me out.... I can't sleep.

Anyone else fear for their plants?

OH came in and found me a little distraught so legged down the lottie and did his best to cover stuff up, put what could be moved in the greenhouse and lit the gas heater. So I'm feeling a bit more hopeful.
Thanks LD, yes it is extremely frustrating If I had lost my whole foot in the beginning, I would have been running by now, with one of those springy foot things that the paralympians have... Of course it's ridiculous to wish that on myself, but can't help the thought from occurring now and again...

Giving a low of 8c here, so I'm fine with that Thankfully the moors catch everything for us, most of the time (touch wood)
