Hi all I am a complete newbie only had my garden about 16 weeks!

So I have got a section of my garden and have built 2 6x3 feet raised planters and have a one of those polythen green houses and my compost bin on their.

    I have started collecteing seeds.

Iam hoping to use this space to grow healthy veg for my patner and myself and 3 year old.

In my first year I am hoping to grow

    Spuds
    Onions
    Leeks
    Lettuce
    Cabbage
    Sprouts
    Broccoli
    Chillis
    Strawberrys
    Toms
    Peas

General day to day bits for the family
Are the above to difficult for a first timer?

I don't grow all of them but nothing jumps out as horribly challenging though I have heard people can struggle to get leeks beyond pencil size (I don't grow them coz I much prefer other veg). If your looking for something really easy courgettes and summer squash are a good choice, they take up room but are really productive. In my opinion your best bets growing what you and your family like.

Thanks Gaylke thats why i have picked basic food staples really

Just got to fill the planters now and keep my excitment at bay!

I have managed to grow a few spuds in bags that I did from normal potatoes but the frost has got them

I did put some cabbages down form small plants last year and they were looking good and now the local wood pidgeon looks rather plump

Hi and welcome to the vine.

None of them are difficult as such. Just prepare yourself for challenges and coming up with quick solutions. You do have a great bunch of grapes to ask tho when ever you have an issue.

                Good luck

Hello Lawa & welcome to the jungle. You will find that most people struggle to grow certain crops but not necessarily the same crops. What you find easy to grow, I may find it a struggle...........have a browse through the vine & ask away, 9 times out of 10 you will get an answer, you may even get 6 different answers................

Hello Lawa and welcome to the Grapevine
Looking down your list, the chillis and tomatoes would be best grown under cover, perhaps in your GH.
Leeks, cabbage, sprouts and broccoli are in the ground for a long time and take up quite a lot of space. You may not be able to grow as many as you would like!
If you've grown spuds in bags before, perhaps do that again, to save space in the beds for the brassicas and onions.
                    I'm sure you'll do well

                          Hello & Welcome
Your list looks really good - I don't grow brocoli as I can't get them to do much in pots. You could also consider beetroot and turnips. They are fast growing and can be eaten raw, boiled, steamed and roasted.

Hello and welcome to the vine Lawa

Kales are good greens to grow, I use mine as 'cut and come' again the so they keep on producing from August right through until May just by taking a few leaves from each plant, but they do have to be netted against Butterflies and pigeons.
