  • Newbie - slug advice

Hiya! I'm new to the board and just wondered if anyone had any advice on how to keep the slugs at bay! This year I've got my own little garden complete with a greenhouse! Right now I'm making a side flowering border around two vegetable beds, along with a small area for a couple of fruit trees.

The garden has a big slug problem and I don't really want to use slug pellets as I have pets and a wildlife friendly garden (that hedgehogs/birds visit) and I am looking at alternatives.

I was thinking of trying copper tape around raised beds or nematodes, and wondered if anyone had any success with either of them, and had any tips or know where's best to buy them from.

Also are nemotoads ok to use if you are growing vegetables? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    newbie - slug advice

I've got some pellets that say they are pet and wild life friendly. Without going outside into the cold to mooch for them, can't remember the brand. Im sure tho' there must be other such brands on the market.
The best ad. I ever saw for permanent eradication was for two blocks of wood. Instruction was to place the slug on one piece of wood and bash it hard with the other.

Slugs, along with parsnips, generates loads of threads on here.

If you go to 'search' and type in 'slugs' I'm sure you will get hundreds of threads shown.

      For my 2p...organic slug pellets.

After years of trying different things we've watered in nematoades for the first time. I haven't seen any since and my tulips have stopped being shredded. I have heard great things about them, especially that they last a lot longer than it says on the tin. I ordered them from the internet, I just googled nematoades and chose the first one, i think it was 'helptheplants.com' or something like it.

make some beer traps out of plastic bottles cut in half, see link below.

Shame to waste the beer, but better than having everything eaten.

You'll be fine to use nematodes on veg, I used it last year and will be again this year.

Thanks for all the advice & the links! I'm going to order some nematodes, its good to know that they'll be ok with the veg, and in the meantime I'll open a slug pub with a few beer traps
