  • new raised beds

I am a complete novice to veggie growing and have had a small raised bed (1 mtr x 2 mtr) made.
My question is what sort of growing medium do I use. My garden is tiny and is covered with gravel, therefore no soil, so what ever I use will have to be brought in.
Look forward to hearing your replies, thank you

    Hi there and welcome
I just used my garden soil but added to it with some compost and manure.

I used bags of compost. Last years beds, I put horse manure into...
Never test the depth of the water with both feet

A mix of topsoil, compost and manure should cover growing almost anything you can put in now.

Ive just built a raised bed with thanks to the B&Q timber yard ! It measures app 2m by 1m by 1ft high and cost less than £20 for all the wood so I guess its a bargain.

Im going to put old newspaper and grass cuttings in the bottom and then sieve soil into it.

This is my first attempt to so im hoping that will work but if anyone knows different please let me know.

I also intend to creosote the wood first and attatche black plastic to the inside to make it last longer so again if im wron please someone let me know.

i've gone along similar lines to kieren
              the 'lasagne' type affair.
layers of different organic matter, then a deepish layer of compost
my raised bed does actually sit on earth, though it had been covered for a very long time with a membrane
