  • Netting brassicas

Hello again. We have just planted some Brussels sprouts, purple sprouting broccoli and cabbages and kale. I know you need to net the seedlings but I have 2 questions:
Do you just use wider holes bird protection netting or the finer insect stuff?
How long do you net them for? Just til they are established or even once they are big and tall? (Trying to work out size of netting required!)
    Thanks
    UD

Hi UD, Keep them netted as long as possible & the finer net the better, to stop the butterflies laying their eggs try & keep the netting off the leaves as they will lay their eggs through the net.

Just have a think about the height required before you make it. My broccoli has grown like mad and is now pressing on the netting. The caterpillars are now loving it and i'm out of the country and my Mrs isn't very good at construction!
