I planted some mizuna seeds 4 days ago and they've come up really quick but I'm wondering if they are a bit leggy. Never grown it before so don't know if it's normal or not. They are on my window sill and were started off inside a white plastic carrier bag. Anybody else grown this at this time of the year?

They'll be leggy at this time of year, unless you have endless sunshine. My winter salads have all come up too due to the unseasonably warm weather - they'll still taste nice though!! -
So I'm guessing the fact that I only opened the curtains an hour ago won't help much. (Daughters birthday hangover from german market in town). I'm planning a cloche for when they are bigger.Comment

I grow Mizuna instead of rocket now days as we prefer the taste but I've never started it off this early, maybe at the end of the month I try some....Chris

I have some under cloches at the allotment now, from memory I sowed it in September / October. There's enough for picking. It even came through last year's heavy snow and was nice to have when there's not much other than brassicas.Comment

Donna, they do not need all that heat and cosseting. You can happily sow some outdoors in the spring and of course in the autumn for winter salads with some protection.Comment

My mizuna self seeds so have them growing all over the allotment, even through the winter, though growth is slow. I guess they'll romp away as it gets warmer, I would plant them out under cover ASAP if I were you. You can always start a few more if they succumb to frosts.Death to all slugs!Comment

I planted some more indoors a week ago and they are looking a lot better than the first time. I've planted another lot for a continuation of supply. Should they be pricked out and planted as single seedlings or can they be planted in small clumps. There is a possibility of a little snow here tomorrow so won't be planting them out just yet. Might just plant them into some troughs in the garden as our lottie site is a bit exposed.Comment

I grew a row outside last year and they were great in my packed-lunch salad boxes and also in stir fries. I've put a few seeds in a pot in the kitchen window last week, to use as cut and come again salad and they were through in a couple of days. As soon as the weather starts to pick up here I'll be growing some outside again as they are very quick to grow.Comment

I've mixed loads of packets of different salad leaves including mizuna and will be sowing them outside in troughs in the next couple of weeks.Granny on the Game in SheffieldComment

I grew some under fleece outside at this time of year two years back, had a great crop.

I'm trying mizuna in a tray on the windowsill with cress, leaf beat leaves and rocket. I've already had a harvest of lettuce leaves so we'll see how the next lot of seeds go.Comment

I planted this Mizuna about 4 weeks ago on a very sheltered outdoor windowsill.
As you see it's more than ready for cropping. I'll carry on now sowing a pinch every 2/3 weeks.It's wonderful in a mixed leaf salad.
I'll also mix mizuna with other leaves & grow in a window box as the weather warms up.
