  • Mini greenhouse

I am in the South East. Is it still too early/ cold to start using my mini plastic greenhouse (the small ones you can buy everywhere cheaply) I am not sure if they would be enough to protect from frost.

I've started using mine Nicola. Broadbeans up fine, also leeks and broccoli. Also put some sweet peas in there from the house.

Have some tomato seeds in there but in a propagator, so double protected, but they are not up yet.

    I'm in Kent.

Leeks, cabbages, broccoli, peas, brussel sprouts and other hardy things will likely be okay in there.

I wouldn't even attempt toms, peppers, chilli or the sensitive sorts just yet. Unfortunately the small plastic greenhouses don't hold their temperature particularly well and the moment you get below about 10C, or flash frosts, it will either stump the germination or kill them. You are looking at around 6 weeks before I'd risk them. As Dorothy said, you could try double bagging them and some of the tougher toms might be okay.

Thanks. I have the shelf part up and standing by my south facing patio doors but not sure how long the OH is going to suffer it being there.

Nice and warm on a sunny day, but still cold at night
