  • Manuare question!!!

Just wanted to check, I have been offered 2tonnes of old rotted manure for £20 from a local stable. Manure free, £20 is for the delivery!!!

Wanted to check as im still digging over the veggie patch, getting rid of of roots, and weeds, etc. When is the latest I can put the manure on the veggie patch before starting to put out the seeds?

Anyway know this info, as I dont want to put it on there, and find I cant use it then till the following year!!!

    Thanks

    Mbronco

If it is well rotted you can put it on anytime. However, you need a nice fine tilth to sow seeds and the manure is a bit bulky. So I advise that you sow the seeds and then when the plants are a good size add the manure as a mulch between the plants, you won't have to dig it in either, the worms will do that for you.

If you have to dig it in then I'd do it as soon as possible so that it breaks down ready for the seed sowing.

I know, I just hope it hasnt got that pestacide in, aminopyralid, i mentioned it to the farm, and they said well we never had problems or complaints, but i need to try find out what it would be in, to check with them before infesting my veggie patch

          I don't think it's a manure question at all - I think it's quite a good one.

I don't know all of them but 'Pharaoh' is a common one...there's a list on here

Aminopyralid Herbicide Residue in Manure Killing Crops

As they point out even if the stable doesn't use it on their pasture it can arrive via bedding straw.

I'd give it a go if they say 'no complaints'

I think Dow agrochemical should provide a free test kit to gardeners.
