  • Managed to acquire lots of wood - apart from raised beds, ideas what I can do with it?

    Evening all,

Yesterday I popped down to the allotment and one of the plot holders told me he was giving lots of cut wood away so I took my chance and 'filled my boots' as the saying goes.

I knew I needed some wood to make some raised bed but I grabbed 'a bit' extra just incase, as I know it would be useful sometime.

I was thinking of making a cold frame in addition to some sort of fencing for taller crops.

Anyone got any ideas of how I can put this wood to good use?

    Thanks for your ideas,

    Samuel

Samuel, it would help if we knew what size the pieces of wood are

You could make a 'rustic bench' Samuel if you have enough wood, somewhere to sit and watch your veggies grow.

of course if you have any long thin bits left over, they are very handy for stirring

I have around 15-20: 1.5 metre long - thickness that of ~1-1.5cm (this is the thinnest and I used this size for my raised beds and may use it to make the raised beds extra deep by stacking on top of the ones I have already made).

Then I have around the same amount again with the same length but ~2-3.5cm thick.

                        Then I have ~ 10 x 10cm thick similar length square lengths.

Plus lots of other random bits and bobs, it was literally a feeding frenzy for me. I can use odd bits as small stacks to secure the raised beds.

I most likely have more so will try to update when I can.

                        Any ideas?

I could use stacks outside of the raised beds so I can easily support netting to stop birds or pests.

I could make a support fencing for tall growing crops.

Sounds like you were in the right place at the right time, Samuel
A few suggestions:- cold frame, potting bench, seat, cages for brassicas or fruit, compost bin, fencing............. guess it all depends on how good you are at making things
