  • Loo roll convert

I read all the threads about saving the loo roll cores so started collecting. Himself was NOT impressed at my collecting of "clutter". Well, the other day he found me in the wee greenhouse filling them with compost and putting seeds in. He said "Oh, that's what you do with them. Upshot is, he now brings them to me so I don't have to sneak them out and hide them.

if you put your loo rolls in the micro for a minute then they don't get fungus growing on them, or so i've been told. tried it this year with my beans and peas, and so far, no mould.

I have been saving and using loo roll cores, cut in half to make two, but for sweetcorn I will use whole.

Not heard of the stick em in the microwave tip, will give it a try nothing to lose.

I don't have a microwave - I do however have a full to bursting airing cupboard full of loo rolls insides - been collecting them all winter.

I have found that cabbages did not do well in loo rolls.

                          Not likely....they'd cart me off.

Lets just say that I'm growing an awful lot of beans and peas and my root trainers are pretty full so I need all the loo roll inners that I can get hold of!

Do runner beans like the microwaved loo rolls?

I have just planted out my sweet peas: half done in loo rolls, half in proper root trainers (£8)

the loo roll ones are much, much better: bigger plants, stronger roots. I can't explain why, but that's how it is.
