Default long legged spuds

hopefully today im gonna plant out the spuds ive got in the shed.
they have got long legs now and do i plant them legs up or down ?
if they go up whuch u think is correct do all the legs go under ground or cn i leave them poking obove ground

Um, they shouldn't really have long legs.
Never mind, stick them in anyway. The shoots go upwards - they are the leaves. There are 100's of posts in the archives on potatoes, have a look with the Search button. Here's one to get you started: Chitting potatoes ?

This happened to me last year but I planted them shoots up as Two Sheds says, and they grew just fine. Make sure you keep on putting earth around the shoots as they poke up out of the ground - it stops any baby potatoes growing near the surface from turning green.

thanks for the replies guys ,we went and planted most of them today only gota round 40 more to go.
we planted them depish and earthed up around them.
we can use manure to earth up too?

If it's been rotted down well (6 months+). You never use fresh manure on plants, it burns them (ammonia?).

we now have got green shoots coming out of the ground from where we planted our spuds.number1 son is so excited he cant wait to go back down tommorow.he also sown some beetroot,kohl rabi and radish.
if only he was as keen at digging as he is at sowing and planting
