Mine are coming up nicely but I'm a little confused about what I should do with them next.

When were they sown, how close together are they, and how big are they?
This time of year, I generally pop them in once the potato or other beds start coming free, so I tease a few out at a time and pop them as deep as I can into dibbed holes, and water them in. Then leave them be. I'm planning on putting them in next week once the first potato bed has come free.Last edited by zazen999; 12-07-2009, 08:42 AM.

I forgot to write the date down when I sowed them
they are about 7 inches tall and some are a bit close together.

I'm gonna try mine for about 6" if I can get the dibber in that deep. I'll be putting my leeks in about a weeks time

Thanks zazen, but I can't get the video to work, it says I need Adobe Flashplayer which won't download 
I've read something about making a hole, filling with water and putting the leeks in it and gradually building up the soil around the stem.
Is this right

Dig up your leeks, make a hole about six inches deep (I use a bit of an old broom handle) so you've got a nice firmish cylindrical hole. Trim the leek roots a little bit so you can just drop the plant into the hole. Don't backfill the hole, just water them in gently. As time goes by the leek should expand to fill the hole.Comment

No.........the soil around them will be loose so the leeks will expand easily. All the holes eventually fill in....its just a question of time!Originally posted by FionaH View Post

Well, Solitare - I'm sowing some more soon - they may not get as huge as some but I'll eat them next year, they will just be smaller than the ones sown a while back.

I'm getting short on space, but do have some horrible chicory lettuce, so they are going on the compost and the leeks can go in there place
