  • leave or pinch cucumber flowers....

    Hello hello....

First time cucumber grower it has been planted out for about a week has 5 true leaves. I have been looking at posts talking about pinching out/off flowers to give the plant longer to grow/bulk. Should I leave or remove current flowers? Excuse the hand wanted perspective on size of plant and it rained alot last night yes the ground is very wet

    Thank you

I would be inclined to take them off and let the plant grow a bit more. If you think of the size of a cucumber then the poor little plant will be overwhelmed by just one! It is also putting a lot of energy into producing fruit which would be better spent in growing the plant. I would also give it something to climb up unless you were planning to let it ramble across the ground. They can get huge!

I am for nipping them out also, looks to me as if it could do with a high nitrogen feed too.

I planted to ramble roitelet, I have cucumber, courgette, squash and pumpkin in rowS behind each other. 90cm per row with a 30cm path between each is that not enough to ramble?

I have some Miracol Grow Fruit and Veg plant food is that classed as a high nitrogen feed potstubsdustbins?

Thank you all for advise I have followed suggestions with picking off did assume that plant was small for actual fruit growth already....

You might end up with a bit of a tangle. However you can do a bit of pruning if this happens.
