  • I've got to pick and plant a hedge!!!

The fence at the bottom of the mother in laws garden has fell down, well some of it has, the rest swings gently in the breeze She wants something quick growing (not too quick I'll be the one cutting it ) and cheap. I was thinking about getting this

www.hedgenursery.co.uk - Common Privet (Ligustrum vulgare) 80100cm Bare Root 2yr old (1+1) pack of 25 - Common Privet (Ligustrum Vulgare) Hedging - Hedging

It's not thorny which is a bonus, also don't Privets grow quite quick and dense? Any better hedges out there? Or should I just go with that

I think Beech looks much nicer, grows quickly and is cheaper. I avoided any thing with poisonous berries as I have 2 and 3 year olds running around the garden.

Good point! We do go up there with our little one, but she don't really go down the bottom of the garden as its the dogs bit. Might go for the Beech as its cheaper as well, through not everygreen

Beech would get my vote - we planted a very small hedge of it when I did RHS course, made me want to do one at home

It's not evergreen more everbrown. Beech as a hedge holds its brown leaves until the new growth starts in the spring so you still have a screen instead of just bare twigs.

You can grow rosemary as a hedge, and it's very nice & impressive, but it does take a long time to get to a decent size

Couldn't agree more, throughout the winter there are beech leaves everywhere(wind picks them up)-till the new growth starts there's crunchy leafy mess everywhere around the house.Hell to cut either(hard),good screening though.
