Default I'm a dad!!

My first seedlings have started to show their faces!!

I've got four courgettes just starting to break the surface of the compost. I'm so proud, my first ever grown-from-seed plants.

Woohoo!

Congratulations

I'm glad I'm not the only one who regards my plants as my babies. I always feel really proud when one of my babies grows up and leaves the nursery.

Hope you have many more

Tracy

Courgettes too. They'll grow into big kids Wayne. Well done. You never stop getting excited either!

Well I guess that's only to be expected, I'm a big chap!

Planted the rest of my potatoes too at the weekend - fingers crossed. Speaking of which, is there a rule of thumb for how many potatoes each seed (potato) produces?

I don't think so Wayne, the yield depends on the variety. Seed catalogues usually say something like Yield - Moderate or Yield - High but they don't define it.

Congratulations Hey Wayne. Yes it is a wonderful feeling - and know what? -you never lose it no matter how many seeds you germinate. I think that's why we all do it. Hope you get a bumper crop of courgettes.

I hope you DON'T get a bumper crop of courgettes....after picking them every day for a fortnight, you'll wish you'd only grown one! (I'll still put 3 plants in tho...one for me, one for the slugs and one for luck)

Well done Wayne! Its a FAB feeling isnt it? I nip into my greenhouse am and pm (B4 and after work) and see what has happened! I still wonder how those little seeds can germinate, then grow into the wonderful veg we eat from our plates!
Brill eh?!

Oh and I was hoping the excitment of seeing *New Babies* never wanes. I thought I was the only mad one and have been sneaking out and peeking in the greenhouse when everyone else was preoccupied and wouldn't notice me *ohhh-ing and arrr-ing* at my new babies :-)

congratulations HeyWayne, isn't it a wonderful feeling? Just watch out, now the worry - too much water, too little light, not warm enough.
When you find yourself going about in pjs in the dark after a warm day to cover the babies up - you know you're really hooked!

Well done Wayne, wish I could say how exciting it all is. I've only got to look at my seedlings and they keel over in a very unbecoming way!

Just got home to check on the boys (or girls, it's too early to tell), and they're coming on great guns! Even been joined by another.

Also, my sprouts have started to come up - exciting times!!! I've got about 5 little baby sproutlings poking through.

Can't wait for the rest to appear.

I know the feeling Wayne this morning 2 out of my 38 parsnips seeds have popped their heads above the compost.

Ain't that the truth!? I came downstairs this morning to be greeted by some small plants! I'm almost sure some "plant fairy" has been in my house over night and swapped my seedlings for bigger plants! I've put them in the greenhouse today, and I suspect I'll be harvesting by the weekend...

I've saved a load of vending machine cups from work which I'm planning to turn into little plant pots (after making drainage holes in the bottom).

Hi there Haywayne, congrats on becoming a 'dad', we all know how exciting it is when the seedlings show their heads.

Derek and I became Grandparents again back in Feb when aprox 300 Musselburgh leeklings, aprox 50 Unwin Exhibition Onions and about 30 Ailsa Craig onions showed their tiny heads. All doing very nicely too.

This w/e we will be planting out our maincrop potatoes (Maris Piper) to join our early spuds, Maris Bard and Int Kidney.

Then over the next few weeks we will be starting to sow peas, runner beans, broad beans and various cabbages, caulis, carrots etc.
