  • I'm confused! What can I sow now?

I have been searching through the posts on this forum for advice on what I can sow now but I'm not sure which seeds needs heat to germinate.

I have a draughty unheated greenhouse and a very basic small heated propogator which I have never used. (Sorry to be thick but when should the air vents on the propogator be opened and when should they be closed?)

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can sow now and in the next few weeks, both in the greenhouse and in the propogator?

Is it always advisable to sow veg seeds under cover or are some just as successful if they are sown straight into the ground later on? I don't want to make more work for myself if it isn't necessary!

(If it makes a difference, I am in the North West on a coastal site).

    Thanks in anticipation!

I've got onions sprouting. They were in an unheated propagator on the kitchen windowsill. When they started to show I opened the vents ,then uncovered them after a couple of days. Now they are in the conservatory. Then in a couple of weeks I'll move them to the unheated greenhouse.
Also got some tomatoes and aubergines. I put the propagator in the airing cupboard to get them going . Now they're on the kitchen windowsill and I just cover them at night.

Open them when the insides get sweaty.
