  • Idea's for moving house :)

    Helloooo everyone

As we're moving house soon* and are waiting for that final date, I'm a bit lost as to how to keep everything surviving in pots before they can go into nice new big raised beds ect..

I have red cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli in 20cm pots currently, there only just past seedlings so I think they will last till we move, covered with plastic bottles cloches

But I have spring onions, garlic, carrots all ready to be planted, they're at seedling stage and need to be planted somewhere, any suggestions/size depth tubs?

I also have pea's to sow soon, any suggestions on where to sow before the move?

    Thanks,

    Amy

Good luck with the house move Amy, personally I wouldn't bother with any of the seedlings. Concentrate on your move & start again later.

Sow peas when you move to your new house. Buckets make good containers for carrots but its a lot of faff moving lots of buckets.
I'd wait until you've moved - I guess you have some idea when it may be?

We think November, start of, or very last week October if we're lucky

Buckets is a good idea thanks! - there isn't that many carrots now, around 30, so might not be too many to move, I have some spare at 26cm high, that seems a little bit shallow for carrots? But I guess beggars can't be choosers!

Amy I always sow my peas into 4ft lengths of guttering sliding the whole lot sideways into a pre-dug channel in my bed once they're ready to go out.

            good luck with your move

Carrots don't transplant, onions are cheap but you could sart off your garlic in small pots, they don't put on huge growth in Autumn, I don't start my garlic off till mid Oct generally though it does depend on what variety you have.
