  • How Many Asparagus in 1m x 2m bed ?

I have read so many different 'definitive' guides on spacing for asparagus plants that I am now quite bewildered. So, I have come to the Oracle ! What would you recommend for beds that are 1m x 2m ?
    a) A single row down the middle ?
    b) Two parallel rows ?
    c) 3 staggered rows ?
It makes a lot of difference to the number of crowns per bed.
    Thanks,
    Ali

If your bed is 1m wide, then you can easily reach all parts without stepping onto it, right?

Therefore, you don't need rows (which are to allow the gardener access between plants w/o standing on the crop)
You can plant in blocks, like this:

Space apart as per your packet instructions.

My problem is that most instructions say keep at least 18" apart all round, I am hoping to put 11 in each 1m x 2m bed, as per Two Sheds design, ideally with a 4-3-4 formation. I am worried that may be too many and as they wont want to be moved once they are in position, I cant afford to mess up the planting. Do you think 11 crowns per bed is okay ?
