  • How best to tame/control my melons & cucumbers?

    Afternoon all,

In my poly-tunnel the cucumbers and watermelons are doing well and are spreading out alot.

I was just wondering how best can I tame these plants/construct a structure to control them?

    Many thanks,

    Samuel

I've got washing line threaded through pea and bean netting and tied to the crop bars then pegged down along the bottom so my cucs and melons can be trained up ....keep finding them making a bid for freedom tho'
S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig
a batch of jam is always an act of creation ..Christine Ferber

I only have 3 but in a small GH. each has a cane, the first one I take up to the roof then have a cane running laterally in the apex. The second goes up about one foot less and also has a lateral cane and so on. It means pruning to one main stem of course.

I have mini cucumbers growing 2 to a big pot being trained up string thats on hooks to the greenhouse roof - i only have a 6x8 greenhouse so am trying to keep remembering to wind them around the string to keep them in check.
I've had loads of mini cuc's so far - even resorting to making soe in to pickle rather than go to waste (thank goodness for that book with the last magazine!)

My melon plant is just getting going now (Minnesota midget) and i'll be doing the same with that!
