Hot Chilli Peppers

Hi Nippy, I am no expert but I would think it could go in the next size up pot. It also should be ok in unheated greenhouse or sheltered sunny spot in your garden. I think people also grow indoors on sunny windowsill. Try a google search for growing peppers.

Thanks Bumble, I hadn't thought about the window cill. I might give that ago.

I have bought it with the idea of presenting my son with some Chilli peppers, which he loves, as a surprise. You know what, I might just present him with the plant

My son decided to take a young plant to nurture himself. I only hope it's growing faster than the rest I've done from seed, because they seem to be stuck at about 5"!

I just grow them on the windowcill Nippy. Never use bigger than a 9" pot - sometimes smaller, They do fine for me. This one is Hungarian Hotwax.

I've just bought some of those seeds along with some Santa Fe Grande and Jalapenos - too late for this year though.

My Cayennes are doing well on a windowsill - about 2ft tall and just starting to flower (sowed quite late in March). But I put one in the growhouse outdoors to compare, and it's half the size and not near flowering.

It's definitely indoors for mine - they love the heat, plus less pests, greenfly etc to worry about.

Hi 159 my cayennes were on the windowsill up to today but were only about 6" high, so I've potted on and put them in the blowaway - wondering if I should have persevered now, I might go and get them back in!

I would bring them in if I were you

Potting them on will help them take off, especially as there be a new supply of nutrients.

Edit:
Just reading the 'general chilli-growing instructions' I got from south devon chilil farm, and it says
"try to keep plants above 17 degrees to promote fruit-setting"
It also says '"once the plants have reached the required size, avoid over-feeding with nitrogen" - which to me suggests use tomato food - not general purpose fertilizer.

Nippy, there's no reason why you shouldn't put it in the greenhouse border if you want to. The only thing is that the extra root space might make it grow into a bigger plant than you anticipted

We grew both peppers and chillis in the polytunnel borders last year and the plants were really healthy and happy, but, they did put a lot of energy into growing a big root ball and meant that the crop was a bit later. However, if yours is already flowering and cropping it might not hold it up that much.
