On part of the garden I do not want anything to grow on it as putting down bark which I know can suppress weed growth but is there anything in the home that can help stop weed growth? I've read about hot water bleach and salt, any advice?

I've been told vinegar but I tried it and it didn't work.
Are you putting anything under the bark [old plastic bags, weed control fabric]?

herby, you need to have something under the bark chips ... even wet newspaper will work (that's what I use, they're free). Any weeds that do come up can be pulled with your hands.

I'v heard that some people used to collect fag ash from local pubs (before the smoking ban came in) & dilute it in water to make organic weed killer. Or you could get old silage cover from a farmer who would be throwing it out, use it to cover the ground & put bark chippings on top for decorationComment

I've got weed suppressent membrane on my allotment paths all covered with bark chippings and I'm forever weeding them! Windblown seedlings....

looks like pretty much mostly pines and walnuts. Maybe worth collecting some pine leaves and trying it?
Sunflowers and Catnip look like the best options for growing yourself.Comment

You can use salt too. The Romans apparently used to salt people fields as punishment. A scorched earth policy!
Though that does seem a little odd when Salt was considered a valuable commodity (salary come from salt, which people used to be paid in).

The Wilkos weedkiller, I believe, is Sodium ChlorATE whereas common salt is Sodium ChlorIDE.
Sodium Chlorate is highly toxic to humans.
Please do not confuse them in the kitchen or ingest any of the Wilkos stuff when using - wash your hands afterwards!!
