  • Help - Toms

    Hi guys,

I am noticing nearly all my tomato plants in different sized pots 6" to 12" are starting to get their leaves curling up and into themselves and a few of the smaller ones have browning and crispy leaves on a few branches not all, any ideas what I'm doing wrong, maybe watering them everyday has been too much?

    Thanks Craig

Where are you keeping them? Are they outside or indoors?

Curling leaves sometimes happens when they put on a growth spurt, and they straighten out on their own. But the brown bits sounds like they might be getting either scorched or frosted, and that obviously depends on temperature They need to be kept above 5c, and preferably below 25-30c. So if it's going to be colder, move them indoors for the night, and if they're getting too hot they need either some shade or to be moved outside.

    Hope that makes sense

      Hi Sarah,

I have them all inside at the moment in front of double French doors and some on the windowsill until I finish erecting the greenhouse!! Maybe spilt some water on the leaves and they have been burnt through the glass was just sweating about the leaf curl incase I was overwatering or something?

You can usually tell by the weight of the pot if the plant needs water - dry compost is quite light. Maybe you could check them before you water? If it's the new growth that is curling under, and it looks fresh and green, then it's probably nothing to worry about

I got curly leaves on some of my Toms last year and had a fret! They were fine. The brown bits are probably scorching from the sun!

          Dont worry it'll be reet

They look healthy enough to me Craig, but they might need potting on into deeper pots, sinking some of the lower stem into the compost.

Funny you should say that I have just bought new pots today to pot them on thought they might need repotting so will do that tomorrow!!

                  Thanks
