    Have I got room for anything else in this bed?

    Hello

    Here's a picture of a bed that I have planted 6 raspberry canes in. They are an autumn variety called Polka.

    I have planted them 18" apart, and never having grown raspberries before, I have no idea how tall they will get or how much they will spread.

    Have I got room to plant anything else around them, at the front and side edges of the bed? I was thinking strawberries, but I have never grown those either so have no idea about size.

    What do you reckon?

    Depending on the aspect but you could get some strawberry's in, Raspberry do grow tall and bushy, they also send out lots of suckers, so you could sow quicker cropping plants like lettuce, radish etc

      Yeah, go with Tebs' advice. If you want strawberries, why not put a few good strong brackets on that nice warm wall and have them in hanging baskets? Stay clean and out of the way of slugs etc!

        Oooh what a good idea! The wall faces south west and it does get a lot of sun. I thought it would be a good place for the raspberries as I plan to put some hooks up the wall for a fruit net - so the brackets could serve a dual purpose

          Got garlic around the edge of 3 of my raspberry beds and lettuce going in around the edge of the other 1.
