  • Growing in modules.

Last year I sowed everything direct but this year Ive also started some stuff off in modules (salad leaves, radishes, spinach and beetroot). Thing is Im not sure when I should be planting them out.
Can anyone tell me how big they should be before transplanting them? (any pictures would be helpful!).

The larger they are, the more resistant they'll be too pest attack. That said, if they're small modules the plants will soon use up the nutrients available to them in the compost/soil they're sown in.

Obviously they need hardening off, but I tend to pot on things like pumpkins, until they're maybe 8" - I have spares too, incase they're munched by slugs. Salad things, I plant out when a couple of inches tall, and sow some more - etc - I grow everything bar carrots and parsnips in modues (or small pots).

To round up, I really don't know - sorry Just when it feels "right", and I know they'll be able to tolerate some pest attack.

Spot on TS! When they are sturdy and strong kg - pot them on further if you need to until they stand a fighting chance.

Definitely not before you can see roots coming out the bottom of the pot
