Growing an apple tree from seed lol

Most apple trees (if not all) that you buy are grafted on to root stocks to control their size/fruiting. You will get the pleasure in growing a tree but don't count on it being a good producer of apples.

Not to worried about how good it is at producing apples. The mother in law ha one and its been there years, and its got the perfect shape for putting a climber through.

Think I'll give it a try! Would it be best to start off in a toilet roll tube, so the tap root has room? or just plant an apple core outside and leave it to nature?

I have Geoff Hamilton's Cottage Gardens dvd, and there's a man on there in his late 80's with a beautiful apple tree that he grew from a pip out of an apple given to him by his mum for his packed lunch as a youngster

Definitely a long-term project, but a lovely one.

Doubt I'll live that long, but would be nice to look back on! I'm going to get some apples today, so will give it a try

Husband's gran did it. It can be up to 10 years before you get fruit. It will also NOT be the variety you grew it from. Apples don't come true to seeds - if you want the same type you need to graft a cutting. A good thing to try none-the-less, if you have room. Grow like any other seeds - sow several and don't be impatient for them to germinate. They will, but not rapidly. Good luck!
