    Green Manure

    Hello

    I have been reading about the benefits of Green Manure being planted in my raised beds once all my crops have been harvested.

    what is the best thing to plant?

    are any of the following any good? (seeds that I currently have but not using for anything else at the moment)
    Lavender
    Alyssum
    Pansy
    Salvia
    Poaches Egg
    Tagetes

    A green manure is something that will grow quickly and then be dug in.
    I wouldn't have thought lavender fits the bill.

    Poached egg is my favourite green manure.

      Hi Peppertom, as I didn't have a clue about what I could sow...i bought a packet of Green Manure from Thomson & Morgan last year and sowed it around October/November time in a raised bed that wasn't being used. I felt it made a real difference to the soil for this year! and some of it still grows through the veg just now!!

        I agree with Two sheds that poached egg plant is good. I also grow comfrey between the wanted crop and then dig it in at the start of the next season. Best fertiliser around.
        Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?
