Default Ghetto Cold Frame?

Can I use an overturned clear plastic tub on several layers of bubble wrap as a 'cold frame'? Can I just put my seedlings directly out there from inside the house, or do I need to harden them off first by only putting them in the cold frame during the day for a couple of weeks?

Thanks!
