  • Getting plants ready for direct sunlight

    Hello

I'm trying to harden off a number of plants at the moment ready for putting in at the allotment.

I'm having a few problems with the leaves wilting when they direct strong direct sunlight even though the pots feel heavy with water. The giant dahlias seem to be the worst they were repotted last week into much bigger pots. The french beans are also wilting too !

Any advice would be very gratefully received

Don't put them into strong sunlight straight away. Hardening off should be a gradual process. This is what I do:

      - greenhouse door open a crack
      - gh door open wider
      - and wider
      - plants go outside on favourable days (not too hot, not too windy) for a few hours
      - then for slightly longer
      - and longer
      - until they are outside all day

this takes 7-14 days, depending on weather & strength of the plant
