I was looking on a seed website for garlic seeds but it says bulbs. can I just use my own garlic bulbs that I bought from tesco? if so how does that work?

    You can - however.

They really need to go in Sept - Dec for a June-July crop. And you can import white rot. And you might get a variety that doesn't grow well here in the UK.

However, I usually use cloves that have been grown locally; and usually get a great crop. This year I have invested in garlic from the Isle of Wight peeps and it is looking superb so I'll be saving from those cloves and replanting those next season.

I just used one i got from the shop just for fun to see how they go and the cloves are doing great in the coldframe don't know how they will turn out though but will be interesting to see but to be honest I'd go with zazen999 advice i'm only doing it as an experiment.

Mr Singh on our site grows garlic from seed (which he saves himself) and his wife uses it in curries. I only know cos I saw him with a bunch of what looked like grass and asked him what it was. The whole thing ( well apart from the roots) gets chopped up .
