  • Garlic seeds

    My sisters brother in law gave her some garlic for me to grow one is a large bulb and the other a small bulb.The smaller bulb had a flower head with a lot of dark brown seeds.Now can i grow these seeds when should i plant and how long will they take to grow as they are seeds.I cant find any info on garlic seeds anywhere.
    Any info or help please

    You probably could; it might take a few years to get a bulb of garlic from the seeds though.

    What most people do is to split the cloves and plant them; do it before Christmas and you should be harvesting garlic June/July next year.

    The seeds, chuck them in a corner somewhere and see what happens, but don't rely on them for next year's garlic.

      Like most people I should imagine, I've never grown garlic from seed. I would plant them though, for a try, and if it was me, seeing that you live in Scotland, I would plant them indoors.
      Let us know if they grow, I'm intrigued.

        Thanks for your replys i will stick them in some small pots and see what happens(nothing ventured nothing gained)i will cover them in the greenhouse.The bulbs i will split and plant when the colder weather comes

            I meant pot the seeds till big enough to transfer outside into the garden

                Garlic seeds? Now there's an idea! I wonder why the seed catalogues don't sell them though.
                Potato seed experiment seems to have worked well so I can't see why the garlic seed experiment shouldn't!
