    Are gardeners hoarders.

    I dont know about anybody else but this afternoon I decided to have a little tidy up.
    Among the bits and bobs in the greenhouse I have hoarded bits of string which the postman always throws away.
    Little plastic bottles from the hotels which have shower jel and shampoo in, for on top of my canes or to start cuttings in.
    Youghart cartons for small cuttings.
    Cartons from the microwaved porridge.
    Corks from wine bottles, also for the tops of canes.
    Sheets of bubble wrap or polystyrene for wrapping pots in and for lining my metal shelving.
    Clothes pegs, I couldnt do wiyhout them. Use them to secure all iinds of things.
    Old net curtains for keeping out unwelcome pests.
    I could go on and on.
    Is it just me?

    Yep I believe we are all hoarders. When I emptied my 4x4 shed I had that much stuff I filled the boot of my Toyota and the kids had thing by their feet and between them.
    Thing is if you throw it away you will need it in a couple of days. Or you see some one doing something useful with an item and you end up thinking " that's good but damn I threw one of those away the other day"
    I like keeping stuff but keeping it all in order then no one can accuse me of been a hoarder. Well that's the stuff that they can see or know about

        I'm just the same. The stuff piles up, gathering horrible dusty cobwebs, and those huge black spiders, and seldom gets used. Every couple of years I give the shed a good clean out (am I a shed slut?), and chuck it all out, but can't help saving the very next yoghurt pot or cream carton I have.

        It's the same with jars under the stairs. No way will they ALL get used for preserves, but I save them, just in case...

          This isn't hoarding - it's carefully calculated accumulation of things that will be useful at some point
          What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?

            I hoard things that I can see myself using,one day,like bamboo canes,some pieces are quite short,but I might need it when I grow something short

                  Most of you say about keeping things as they will come in handy, but how many people collect stuff with a project in mind, then stuff for another project, oh and then another..............they will all get done one day

                      I have a flat roofed double garage, I have not been able to get my car into it since 1996.It is full of tools timber plumbing bits elecrical bits etc etc.When I want something that i know is in there, say a switched socket I go in and find the box that it is in, is buried, so I go and buy a new switch. This is called "SDA" which is "Self defeating accumulation"
                      But, all that hastle is compensated for when I desperatley need something (say a spigot for a wim wam mill) and after an hours rummage I stagger out of the door with one in my hand.

                          I only hoard margarine tubs. They never leave the house till they have been cut into plant labels, I've got hundreds of the things! Because when I started out ( growing to sell ) 3 years ago, I brought 1000 proper plant labels because I kept running out of my home made ones. Now I can't stop making plant labels! As I haven't done any growing this year, but still been cutting up margarine tubs and save all the labels from the previous years planting that have been written on, because I always grow the same things mostly. You can imagine how many I have

                              Seeds, pots and seed trays, wood for the allotment
                              Good wood and pine furniture to refinish for the house
                              Fabric, cottons, tapestry kits, zips and trims for patchwork, cushions and curtains. (I have a stash of fabrics, enough for, at least, 3 double quilts - when I'm only halfway through the first one *blush*)


                              This hoarding is getting a bit of a worry..... but only because I'm runnng out of room to store it all
