  • Which fertiliser for where

I have a box of growmore and a box of blood fish and bone . I am growing all sorts in containers in the green house and I have flowers , fruit trees , one year old , and blackcurrant and gooseberry bushes in the garden . Where can I use all this fertiliser up . I'm not sure which I should be using for what .

It has two chances , up or down.

It should tell you on the back of the container what proportions of either can be used on what.

Growmore for flowers and BFB for veg and fruit if you want to grow organically!

Growmore and Blood, fish and bone are essentially the same fertiliser from a plant's point of view. They both supply an even, balanced food to plants and trees and can be used on both.

Some people prefer not to use Growmore since it is made from natural gas (the stuff you burn to cook with) and waste products that come from oil distillation (such as what is left over after making your petrol - and would be dumped in landfill otherwise!!) whereas blood, fish and bone has little processing and is just what it says.... dried blood from animal slaughterhouses, ground up fish carcasses and ground up animal bones and houves from the slaughterhouse.

In my opinion, use either fertilizer on all your plants and trees (maybe buy a specific fertilizer for some plants). I don't use chicken pellets as most types available come from battery chicken farms (not all though) and I am trying to avoid putting money towards the profits of such farms.
The proof of the growing is in the eating.
        Leave Rotten Fruit.
        Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
        Autant de têtes, autant d'avis!!!!!

Thank you for your answers . I just thought I would get rid of it by using it round the garden , at least I now know where to use it . The BFB I bought to put my new fruit trees in last year and when they came it said don't use it so I had it left over. Can you over fertilise things as I wouldn't want to put to much in the containers . Should I do it once or twice a season .

Yes, you can over-feed. Read the pack - it will tell you how much to use.

Yep , it says 2 oz to a square mtr . How many sq mtr are there in a hanging basket . :0)
I think I will just give a light sprinkling and water in . It says do it very 6 weeks but not sure if that will still be ok in tubs and baskets where it's not being washed away so much as in the open ground .So , you think the bfb will be good for my toms , cucs ,fruit bushes and trees and beans and the growmore round the flowers .Ok , Iv'e got that . I think . :0)

They are virtually the same thing, from a plant's point of view - almost identical in their NPK ratios.
Growmore is man-made & quick release, and BFB is organic & slow release.

                Take your pick!
They don't need to be all used up this year, btw.
