  • Fainting Carrots

I thinned my carrots on Sunday evening (left it a bit late - I think I should have done them a couple of weeks ago) and seeing the little carrots already formed on the thinnings I couldn't really bare to throw them away!

I transplanted them into a couple of containers and watered them in and the next morning they had fainted. I popped them in the shade and hoped they would come round but they are still resolutely swooning.

Is there any chance they will recover?

Is there anything I can do to increase the chances of them survivng?

    Are they doooooomed?!

    Hi Vikki
May be doomed as it depends on how much of the main root you pulled up
I am just going off what happened to me earlier in the year.... The ones with a full root were ok the ones that had snapped off died
Wait for more answers before you do anything though
    Cheers .... John

I usually eat the thinnings - I always sow too thickly. A couple of weeks ago I thinned them and added the tiny carrots to a risotto. You might argue that their size didn't justify the preparation involved, it was just a quick wash and cutting off the ends.

They were delicious. Good luck with yours.

I try to sow as thin as possible, but it's still too thick! I do leave the carrots to become "babies", big enough to top, tail and steam and if this is done gradually with alternate carrots in the row, I find the rest can be left to develop into big mommas! I'm sorry, but I doubt that your transplanted thinnings will regrow, but you never know!
