Where have you been chitting them Ed? They should be in full light so they produce sturdy green shoots.

Hello Ed and welcome to the Vine

If they are long and white, I would rub them off completely and start again. Chitting potatoes needs to be done in a cool, light place and the shoots should be dark green in colour. If they are dark in colour already then, well done!

Sorry RL you beat me to it!

            Hi Eddie and welcome
You need to take them out of the bags and spread them out in eggboxes or seed trays. They've been struggling for light

They shouldn't be: they should be short, stubby and dark green

They should be chitted in full light, and kept cool not warm

Hello Ed, welcome if I haven't already said

Will they still grow if they were planted with long white sprouts?
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

yes to that but there is a chance they will get broken before planting. The other downside is if the sprouts are too far advanced, they will be through the soil too early and impossible to defend against frost. Remedy to long white sprouts, pick off and start again in full light in a frost free place.
